The Writers’ Group is an affiliation of writers, editors, and other publishing professionals, founded in 1996. Our group exists to help authors get their ideas out into the world.

The expertise of our team and affiliates include copyeditors, developmental editors, writers, and proofreaders, as well as graphic artists, book designers, and web designers, which enables us to tackle projects in a broad range of styles and subject matter.

The team

Nancy Faass, MSW, MPH, director, writer, and editor. Writer/editor on more than forty published books and founder of the Writers’ Group, Nan is coauthor of nine books under her own name, including a Book-of-the-Year. Her training includes a BA in English literature with honors from the University of Maryland, a master’s from Catholic University, and from UC Berkeley. She has worked as a senior editor at UCSF, is a chapter board member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, and a member of the Association of Health Care Journalists, and the Bay Area Editors’ Forum.

David Cole, a writer and publisher, is CEO of Bay Tree Publishing, has served as marketing director for Nolo Press, founded the San Francisco Book Festival, and is author of the best-seller, The Complete Guide to Book Marketing. He provides ghostwriting and developmental editing, and he has written on a wide range of topics, from travel to cult psychology. In addition, he has extensive experience in working on business topics, including books on management and marketing.

Esther Fishman, writer and developmental editor. Esther holds two degrees from San Francisco State University, including a BA in European History with a year abroad in Italy. Her skills in book development reflect 15 years of experience as a manager with three San Francisco booksellers, which has given her a sound understanding of the retail book market and publishing trends. She has provided editorial services to numerous authors both independently and in conjunction with the Writers’ Group.

Dan Liberthson, PhD, medical writer, has 25 years of experience in medical writing and editing for health care professionals, serving as medical writer or substantive editor on book chapters, journal articles, clinical monographs, regulatory projects (applications, final clinical reports, safety reports, and protocols), marketing communications (brochures, product profiles, promotional literature, and exhibit materials), and media for continuing medical education (including video scripts).

Lisa Stockwell, corporate writer and editor, has in-depth experience in communications strategy and writing for Fortune 100 companies that include AT&T, Bank of America, Delta Dental, Pacific Bell, Sprint, and Wells Fargo. Her career spans 25 years, writing quality copy that ranges from annual reports, articles, and brochures to speeches, video scripts, and websites. She is also founder of a successful regional magazine and author of nine books.
